HELPING STUDENTS, THE PUBLIC AND COLORADO ARCHAEOLOGY

Scholarship Requirements and Instructions
|
Scholarships have been awarded since 1986 by the Colorado Archaeological Society (CAS) to honor the memory of Alice L. Hamilton (1916-1986), an avocational archaeologist and CAS member for 18 years. Alice was known for her welcoming spirit and excellent public education presentations. CAS has worked with the archaeological academic community to develop rapport with teachers, professors and students of Colorado institutions. In that light, CAS developed the Alice Hamilton Scholarship program to assist in the training of future archaeologists. The purpose of the program is to provide qualifying students with monetary support for specific projects or programs. The scholarships are given on the basis of merit (application and references), not on financial need. The program has supported a wide variety of endeavors, including research project expenses, lab fees, field school tuition and books. The amount of money awarded each spring is based on the generosity of CAS donors. A portion of member dues is allocated for the Fund. In addition there are many direct donations and various fundraising efforts. Some Chapters and the state organization hold annual silent auctions, as well as the state's raffle held each fall at the annual meeting.
